Every year around this time, women everywhere are scrambling to find “that perfect dress” to wear to the office Christmas party. In my case (because my husband is in the Navy), we attend a Navy ball. It’s a formal event where the guys wear formal uniforms and the gals wear long dresses.
At first, it was fun to buy a fancy dress BUT, after many years being a Navy wife, I’ve come to dread finding a new formal dress each year. They’re expensive, and you can never wear them again. They sit in my closet gathering dust, and good luck trying to resell them. I tried Rent the Runway to save some money, and the fit was never quite right. I was always faced with stuffing myself, like a sausage, into a small dress or giving everyone a boob shot if the dress was too big in the bust.
So this year, I decided to buy a plain black dress. I did quite a bit of research on which black dress to buy and settled on this one from Reformation. It has a classic silhouette, and I love the way it moves when I walk. It almost feels like I’m walking with a train…I feel SO elegant. Now, I have black dress to wear to any formal event that might come up, and I can change the look with my accessories.
So no frantic trips to the mall, no sausage dresses, no boob shots…it’s all sorted out. And, I can let my accessories do the talking. If I’m feeling like leopard print I can do that, or an all black look with a sparkly clutch would be really fun too. The possibilities are limitless with a simple, yet elegant black dress.
