It’s officially the brown snow stage of winter. You know the brown snow stage, right? Christmas has passed, the excitement of the first snow is gone leaving only brown remnants on the side of the road, and it’s bitter cold. And, I don’t know about you, but my mood is deeply affected by the cold, grey weather. I probably have a touch of seasonal affective disorder (Emory might argue that it’s not seasonal haha). Anyway, I have a few wardrobe remedies that put a pep in my step without resorting to Prozac. Because if you feel good on the outside, it makes you feel good on the inside [Mary Poppins heel click]. So here are some pieces in my winter wardrobe that improve my mood…
Fun rain boots. I love my Hunter rain boots. I actually get excited when it rains because I can wear them (and they’re perfect for snow too). I chose the black gloss version because I’m basic like that, and I wanted a pair that would go with anything. The gloss adds a touch of dimension to any outfit, and they keep my feet dry and warm. I also love wearing them with leggings.
Pop of color. I normally gravitate toward neutrals, but sometimes wearing that pop of color like hot pink or yellow can be an instant mood lifter. This sweater from Free People is such a fun color, and it’s warm and snuggly. And, it’s boxy shape allows you to eat a small feast without anyone noticing your food baby.
A chic hat. Hats just look cool – I don’t know any other way to say it. They elevate any outfit to chic rather than cute (if that makes any sense). That said, you need to find the right one to fit your personal style and face shape. Maybe it’s a beanie, maybe it’s a baker boy cap, maybe it’s a ball cap? I found this fedora when we visited Portland in October. I tried on a ton of hats at the Goorin Bros. store (the coolest), and I knew immediately this was THE ONE. Oh, and DUH almost forgot, they keep your head warm too.
All the bronzer that you can pull off without looking like an oompa loompa. So this is not technically clothing, but it’s part of your overall look. Don’t settle for dull skin! Wearing bronzer gives your face a natural warmth, and I never skip this step if I’m wearing makeup. But, find the right bronzer for your skin tone. I like the Too Faced range. I wear the Chocolate Soleil Bronzer, but there are also Milk Chocolate and Dark Chocolate versions as well.
So happy winter dressing friends! What are your remedies for the winter blues? I’d love to hear from you!
