I love photo cards. I love planning the “photo shoots” and designing the cards. I even like addressing the envelopes. But, I know everyone doesn’t share this love, and it’s a chore to send holiday cards every year. I totally get it so I thought I’d make it a little easier. I’ve compiled my thoughts on the different photo card companies I’ve used over the years. I also surveyed some friends about their favorites. My opinions are listed below in no particular order, and I’ve included coupon codes for each company. I didn’t include price comparisons because it gets complicated with the different promotions each company is running at any moment in time. ALSO, my opinions are completely my own, as usual 🙂
Mixbook (pictured) This one is brand new to me, but I read a lot of good reviews about the company and decided to give them a whirl this year (and partly to do research for this blog post). Mixbook doesn’t have the variety of designs that Shutterfly or Minted has, but there are some cute ones, and I like the design I chose. The print quality is good, and overall I am impressed with the cards. I would use them again. (35 to 50% off –depending on which paper stock you choose– with code MRYSHIP)
Minted Minted wins in the design category, hands down. I’ve used them for several different cards and so have family and friends. I’ve been happy some years, and very unhappy others. Last year, the print quality our holiday cards was terrible. I requested that they reprint the cards, and they did so no charge. My mom had a similar experience. The incident soured me to Minted, and I will probably never use them again. That said, I have several friends that like Minted and use them year after year. Mine could have been an isolated experience, or maybe they may have improved their printing quality this year? (15% off with code: SNOW, EXP 12/4)
Simply to Impress A couple of years ago, I used Simply to Impress for our holiday cards as well as for my daughter’s birthday invitations. They have nice designs, and I was generally very happy with the experience and print quality. That said, I haven’t repurchased with Simply to Impress. (25% off with code: winter17, EXP 12/4, free shipping or 2 day shipping for $3)
Shutterfly Shutterfly has a great selection of designs, and I am always happy with the print quality. I purchased cards from them a couple of years ago and bought cards again this year (yes, I bought two different cards bc that’s the kind of person I am…). I prefer the designs on Minted, but Shutterfly is tried and true. Several friends echoed my sentiments. They buy from Shutterfly year and year, and for these reasons Shutterfly is…drum roll please…my favorite photo card company. They also have the “Use My Photo” function, which pre-fills your favorite photo into ALL of their designs. AMAZING. This takes all of the guesswork out of design, and it’s such a timesaver. (I think Minted and Simply to Impress also have this function).(40 to 50% off–depending on if you choose a “premium” card or not–with code BEST, EXP 12/4)
Mpix I use Mpix to print pictures, and they always do a wonderful job with the printing quality. I tried to use them for photo cards, but found the designs lacking and the design interface harder to use in comparison with the other photo card companies’ web sites. That said, I can’t give an honest review on their photo cards because I’ve never actually ordered from them. But, I design a personalized calendar with pictures of the kids as a Christmas present to my family every year, and Mpix does a wonderful job. (new customers receive $10 off an order of $25 or more)
Raven + Unicorn This is primarily a photo card review, but I wanted to add in one of my new finds for traditional holiday cards (and they are local to Raleigh!). These cards are so cute and funny and add a personal touch to your gift giving. (15% off with code: JAMIESAYSSO)
I would love to hear about your experiences with photo cards companies. Which ones do you love and which ones do you hate? Tell me all the juicy details!
