Hello! This is my first makeup post so I want to give a little background on my makeup journey…
A couple of years ago (right around the time I started having kids), I got really into makeup and I mean REALLY into makeup. Almost collector status but not quite. I tried all the brands, bought lots of palettes and lots of foundations in search of the BEST products. I did my “research” while the kids were napping (my husband refers to my makeup room as my “mad scientist lair”). Anyway, It was a way for me to keep my own identity while adjusting to the demands of being a new mom.
I’ve calmed down quite a bit since then, but I’m still a makeup lover. I’ve really honed in on what I love and widdled down my collection to a select few really great products. I’ve been using many of the products for a long time so when something new gets added it has to be really good.
Enter my new current makeup favorites…
YSL All Hours Foundation: I am in love. I have combination skin with an oily T-zone, and this foundation is a perfect match for my skin. It is matte without feeling dry or cakey. I use the shade Warm Bisque, and it lasts a good part of the day (a lot of foundations disappear on my skin after a couple of hours). The best part of this foundation is the coverage; it provides just the right amount of coverage while still looking natural. I apply a small dab with a beauty blender…a small pump goes a long way.
Glossier Wowder: I always set my foundation with powder. I find that it makes my foundation stay put longer. I hate cakey, thick powders that destroy the finish of my foundation. This powder is light enough to keep my skin looking like skin while still blurring pores and setting my makeup. I bought the brush too because it was a good deal ($7 savings if you buy the two together). It’s a very soft brush, and I find that it works well with the powder although it might be better suited for other tasks like contouring.
Glossier Generation G Matte Lipstick in Crush (see picture below): Glossier refers to this lipstick as “diffused, sheer matte goodness.” And, goodness it is. Normally, I run for the hills if a lip product says “matte” because I have super dry lips (like the Sahara desert people, I’m not kidding). Although this product is matte, it is very hydrating on the lips and the sheerness means it looks very natural, not goopey or emphasizing my textured dry lips. Crush, “a hot rasberry pink,” is the only shade I’ve tried so far, and it’s beautiful…the perfect berry color for fall. If you’ve tried any of the shades, I’d love to hear about it!
And, last but not least, mascara….
Voluminous Lash Paradise Mascara in Black Noir: If you’ve tried the Too Faced Better than Sex mascara, this mascara is very similar but better because there is no flaking or transfer. My lashes are long and fairly dark on their own, but I find that mascara enhances and opens the eye in a way that no other beauty product can. Great, great if it weren’t for enemy number one: CLUMPING. You think a mascara is going to be great, then it clumps, and it’s over. DONE. No take backs. But the Lash Paradise doesn’t clump, transfer or flake. It lengthens and make my lashes fan perfectly. And it’s from the drugstore. Yay.
So that’s a wrap! Let me know if you’d like me to do more makeup posts…If there’s a specific product you’d like me to review or provide a recommendation, I am here for you. My obsession is your gain 🙂
