Welcome to my first beauty post! I LOVE skincare and makeup, and I’m always trying new products looking for the Holy Grail, although I’ve become pickier about what makes HG status lately. With this pickiness in mind, I’m really happy with my morning skincare routine. I’ve used many of these products for months or years and repurchased them.
Quick note before I tell you about my regimen: it’s really important to keep in mind my skincare goals and skin type when thinking about if these products will work for you…skincare is very personal so do what works for you.
Morning Skincare Goal: I want glowing, hydrated skin that makes my foundation look flawless (don’t we all!?). I have combination skin with an oily T-zone and the occasional breakout. These days (in my mid-30s), I’m more focused on hydration to combat my fine lines than eliminating acne. Oh and melasma! I almost forgot. I have a significant amount of melasma due to pregnancy hormones and sun damage. Fun times.
First, let’s talk Drunk Elephant. I love this brand because they are committed to using clean ingredients. Basically, you can’t go wrong with anything in their product line. I love the Beste Jelly Cleanser. It’s a gentle cleanser that removes all the dirt without making my face feel dry or tight. The packaging is a little wonky (mine leaks when it’s upright), but hopefully the company will fix this soon. My favorite product from their line is the C-Firma Day Serum. I notice an immediate brightening effect after I use it and an improvement in the texture of my skin.
Another standout for me are these Peter Thomas Roth Max Complexion Correction Pads with glycolic and salicylic acid. As I said before, I’m not really concerned with acne but I find that resurfacing my skin with an acid (like these pads) on a daily basis keeps my skin clear, bright and minimizes my pores .
Two to three times per week, I use the Lancer Method Polish. I have used quite a few scrubby exfoliants, but I really like how fine and gentle this scrub is. These two exfoliants (The Lancer and the PTR Pads) keep my skin from looking dull and the wrinkles at bay. I notice that my moisturizer sinks in more easily when I maintain a regular exfoliating routine.
I’m a big fan of Clinique moisturizers. I’ve been using them for years, particularly the Moisture Surge line. The Clinique Moisture Surge Intense is my favorite moisturizer to use under makeup, hands down, and it does double duty as a primer as well. (If I’m not wearing makeup, I use the Clinique Moisture Surge Extended Thirst Relief because I find it less sticky.)
I was very excited when Clinique recently added The Moisture Surge Hydrating Supercharged Concentrate to their line. It adds an extra layer of hydration to my skin before I apply moisturizer and, because it is a water-gel, it sinks in immediately. You may be thinking…this is a lot of products to pile on! I’m a fan of piling on moisturizing products…as long as the product is not sitting on your face like a sticky mess and absorbing well, the more the better!
Whew! This may seem like a lot (and it is), but skincare is important. I’m a believer because I’ve seen my skin change and improve as I’ve improved my skincare regimen.
Here is a list of the products I’ve mentioned, and a couple others, in the order that I use them in the morning:
Lancer Method Polish (use 2 to 3 times per week)
Drunk Elephant Beste Jelly Cleanser
Murad Anti-Aging Time Release Acne Cleanser (I alternate between this one and the Beste Cleanser in the morning. It’s gentle, creamy and has salicylic acid.)
PTR Max Correction Complexion Pads
Eye Cream (I always use eye cream, but have not found one I love yet – suggestions?)
Keihl’s Iris Extract Activating Essense Treatment (This is a new addition to my routine. I like it so far and find it very hydrating – I use it like a toner.)
Drunk Elephant C-Firma Day Serum
Clinique The Moisture Surge Hydrating Supercharged Concentrate
Clinique Moisture Surge Intense
Omorovicza Queen of Hungary Mist (I use this dreamy-smelling spritz on my face for added hydration and pick me up in the morning. I purchased the small bottle because mists last forever, and this one is pricey.)
I would love to know your thoughts! What are you using in your morning routine and loving? I am always up for suggestions!
