October has been quite the month! We’ve been very busy with events, a trip to Portland, OR, and a move to my parents house (if you missed that life update post, here it is). While running here, there, and everywhere, I clung to my favorites items. I’m featuring some of them in this post: there are some beauty things and a couple of fun items I picked up in Portland.
So here it goes. These are my October favorites (I intend to do this every month from now on…)
My first favorite is a book, “America’s First Daughter” by Stephanie Dray and Laura Kamoie. I picked it up in Portland when we visited Powell’s City of Books, the most ginormous book store I’ve ever seen, literally an entire city block. Luckily, I already knew that I was going to buy “America’s First Daughter.” Otherwise, I may have had a book panic attack. Anyway, if you are a lover of historical fiction like I am, you will love “America’s First Daughter.” It is the story of Thomas Jefferson’s oldest daughter, Martha “Patsy” Jefferson Randolph. From childhood, Patsy was Jefferson’s most trusted confidant. I learned so much about Jefferson’s relationship with Sally Hemmings as well as his time in France and the White House. There’s love, scandal and political secrets about one of our founding fathers, and, although it is historical fiction, much of the novel is based on the Jeffersons’ actual letters (during his lifetime, Thomas Jefferson wrote more than 18,000 letters). I breezed through the book in a couple of weeks (which is a small feat for me).
Now for my style favorite of the month, this pink sweater by Free People. I’m not sure what else to say about it because it’s obvious why I like it. It’s hot pink and I get to pretend I’m Audrey Hepburn with leggings and loafers. So mod…
I picked up two items while shopping in Portland. The first is a hand soap by Aesop. If you’re not familiar with the brand, Aesop is Australian skincare brand with a simple yet appealing aesthetic. We stumbled across the store by accident and fell in love immediately. It’s a cross between a general store and modern apothecary complete with an antique industrial wash basin as the store centerpiece. Check it out. I’ve always wanted to try their products so I bought the Reverence Hand Wash with the intention that I’d save it for our new house…a little house warming present to myself because that’s the kind of person I am. But, I couldn’t wait. It’s so lovely on my sink and the smell lingers on my hands for hours after I’ve washed my hands. It also contains finely milled pumice so it’s a daily exfoliating treatment. Yay!
The second item I picked up was a candle from a Portland store called Woonwinkel. (It wouldn’t be an October favorites without a candle!) With scents of sandalwood, white sage and leather, the Crosby Elements Earthly Dwellings Soy candle is a fall dream.
Speaking of dreamy fall scents, I’ve also been wearing Wood Sage and Sea Salt cologne by Jo Malone non-stop. It’s fresh yet woodsy and just right for the weather and my fall mood.
And finally, my favorite beauty item of the month is Glossier’s perfecting skin tint. It’s perfect for no makeup makeup days (the days when you don’t want to wear makeup but still want to look put together). Right now, I’m wearing the shades Dark and Deep for a more bronzed look. I will probably switch to wearing just Dark during the winter months. It doesn’t feel heavy like foundation but gives a nice light coverage to the skin. You can apply with fingers, a brush or a beauty blender. Check out my instagram stories to see how I apply it.

Well, that’s it for my October favorites. I’d love to hear what you’re loving as well!
